Do you have a decayed or chipped tooth that needs fixing, but you don’t have the money for a crown? Are you looking for something that can blend in with your other teeth and looks natural? If you answered yes, you might benefit from a dental bond–so named because the material bonds with the tooth.
What is it used for?
It is one of the least expensive and easiest dental procedures and can be used in a number of ways. The composite resin used can be shaped to look like the surrounding teeth and polished until it matches them. This is often used for cosmetic reasons to improve upon the aesthetics of a chipped or damaged tooth. It can also be used lengthening or changing the tooth’s shape.
How is it done?
There isn’t much preparation for this procedure, and sedation is often not needed unless you’re filling a decayed tooth. Our dentist will choose a resin that closely matches the shade of your teeth. Dr. Robert Madry will then etch the tooth’s surface slightly. A liquid will then lightly coat the tooth to help the bonding material stick. Then the resin can be applied, molded and smoothed until the desired shape is achieved. An ultra-violent light or laser will harden the material. This process could take 30 minutes per tooth, so if you have more than one tooth needing repair you may need to make additional visits.
